Starting from scratch and enjoying every single bit of it

It’s been a while since my last blog. I have been occupied with so many things, responsibilities, and duties as a mother and wife. BUDGETING. It ain’t easy I’m telling you. I refer to it as a pain in the a**. But it teaches me (in one way or another) the 101 of spending within ones means.

Two weeks ago, I bought this notebook where I can write my daily ramblings on. Here’s how it looks like:

Whatever it is that comes into my mind, I grab a pen and jot it down - some are random thoughts, most are list of things I need to buy - dream of having - things to do - highs and lows of my week.

Having this helps me to be right on track - to have our spending focused only on the necessities.

Speaking of necessities, it came to my thinking that I’m not like who I was before I became a family woman. I’m not saying this now just because of my own observation but of the people around me as well. I came to realize that being highly maintained doesn’t always have to be spending way too much. It merely is looking for alternatives without sacrificing the quality and for lack of good word - without being cheap.

I have always had a good eye when it comes to the products or items that I use so when it finally came up to my senses that I can’t keep up with the lifestyle I used to have before, I knew I have to do something. I started with the basic ones. I have sworn on VS hand creams and The Body Shop strawberry body butter for the longest time but now that I see how expensive they are, I decided to look out for something else in the market that serves on the same purpose - so now, I’m using the Herbench newest line of moisturizing lotion. It comes in three variants but this one is my choice because it kind smells like that of Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea. Plus, the smell doesn’t wear our easily.

I remember having this bunch of facial regimen products. The basics that I have are Neutrogena exfoliating brush, Neutrogena facial cleanser (for sensitive skin), Loreal Pore toner, and Murad Vit. C moisturizer. I also do facial treatment twice in a month which includes diamond and hydro peeling as for my dermatologist advice. I also needed this because of the work I was doing before. Now I can’t keep up with this anymore. It’s just to expensive to be part of the monthly expenses. I can’t even remember the last time I had my face peeled. But no worries, I was able to find a better alternative to this, the Dove gentle exfoliating beauty bar. I use it every other day along with Cetaphil cleanser (which my daughter uses too). For a price of P55, you will get the same benefits as those of the aesthetic clinics.

My husband knows for a fact how obsessed I am with watches. I had a few which I was able to buy through my savings. Some were given by Mom. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to bring them when I moved in to Paranaque so now, I’m starting to own a few again. But for someone who’s on a tight budget, this seems to be far-fetched.

I was able to buy one though. Not as expensive as my previous ones but definitely worth it. I specifically like the color. It’s a simple sports watch made just for women. I get to wear this on office dressdown days and Saturday jogging with Bien.

Now having said all of these, it came to my realization that my ultimate-material-must-have is not included. Any guess?

SHOES. It was December of last year when I ask my Mom to buy me this pair of denim flats I’m dying to have. I’m a shoe addict, admittedly but more than the material aspect, I buy shoes frequently in the past because they only last for months. I have a shoe size of 9 inches and with a feet as big as mine, no pair lasts long. Not only are my shoes sirain. It’s also hard to find my size. A week before payday I scouted at some shoe stores and I chanced upon this pair of silver gray shoes at Janylin. I was lucky, I must say. It was originally priced for P799 but it went on sale and I bought it for only P399.

I still have a lot on my shopping list but I’m saving up for each - one at a time. It’s never easy- BUT- it’s never too hard as well. It’s not just all about sacrificing what you’ve been used to. It’s all about being smart and living within your means. Putting aside those that are not much of a priority and spending first on necessities.

This is all I could write for now. I still have things to do. I’m just glad that I am able to share these things. Now that I’m a family person, I’ll be dealing a lot with money so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Until then.
