I only attended 3 Halloween parties in my entire childhood. My Mom’s really not a fan of costume parties especially that of Halloween. For her, it’s something that should not be celebrated as it’ll be like lifting the evil world.
But I don’t see that way.
I see kids dressed in colorful character costumes with pumpkin baskets, all set for the trick or treat. When I had my daughter Isabelle, my husband and I promised ourselves that we will let her experience the fun of Halloween party.
October 28 - our company organized a Halloween trick or treat for kids. They do it annually, but to me and Bien -it’ll be our first with -
Saab
The Halloween theme was Angry Birds but we didn’t follow it because we know for a fact that most of the participants would come in their respective costumes, not to mention that I’m not really into it. I find it cheap to see Angry Bird novelty items everywhere, all across the metro. Besides, why bother when Bien had already something in mind for Saab - PUMPKIN. I’ve never seen my husband this excited. He was the one browsing Halloween costumes for infants via Google. He’ll [always] drag me to Toy Kingdom to check on the outfits they have so when we chanced upon this pumpkin costume at ToysRUs, we bought it right away. Bien said it’s exactly the same with the one he had seen via Google images so it’s just perfect.
The following day, I went straight to Landmark to look for ballet tights and long sleeves. Good thing I was able to have both in a cheaper price. When we came from work, Bien and I were excited to try the costume on Saab. Yes, our daughter had her dress rehearsal. We were tempted to take a picture of Saab in her pumpkin costume but Bien said, “No. Not yet. Let’s wait until the 28th.”
The long wait’s finally over. Bien and I were more than excited. It felt like were brought back to being kids again.
There were a lot of participants. LIKE A LOT. At the registration, we got a red loot bag which means we’re assigned to the Red bird. Inside the bag is our passport to activities, food, and the trick or treat.
Unfortunately, Saab didn’t bring home any prizes due to the fact that the games were only for kids who doesn’t need assistance from their parents. I find it unfair because there were infants too who made an effort to dress up. Anyhoo, we still managed to enjoy the trick or treat. Saab was asleep on the first part of it but I woke the sleepy pumpkin up. She walked her way to the halloween booths. She’s welcomed with big smiles and praises (Ang cuuuuttteee!), and there were some who even took pictures of her.
Apart from the trick or Treat, we had fun at the photo booth as well.
Now here’s the worst part of the event - the food. Participants were supposed to have their snacks given at 4pm but the food cart arrived and was setup at exactly the same time. The ER (engagement relation) specialist scolded and raised her eyebrow to this one lady telling her that they were supposed to arrive earlier. The lady replied, “Sobrang traffic po kasi.” The ER specialist then said in a high tone, “Kahit na. Dapat mas maaga pa din kayo dumating kasi hindi naman namin pwedeng i-move ang oras ng event namin.” Obviously, there was a commotion pero wala na din kasing magagawa kasi nangyari na. Results were - huge crowd and long waiting. The food part of the occasion was really disappointing. Most of the participants ended up going home instead of waiting in a line that’s not even moving. The organizers should have anticipated that something like that would happen.
Nevertheless, we all had fun. Saab was exposed with kids her age and even those that are older than her. One of the best qualities Saab has is that she’s not a cry baby. Every time a new face would come up to her and say hi, she would just give that person a curious look. Saab took home a lot of goodies though. Her first Halloween trick or treat sure is worth the experience. We’re definitely doing it again next year, probably trying that one of Ayala Malls.
