A Fathers' Day Message

I grew up without a father to recognize. So I will never really know how it feels to have a dad who would spoil you when you’re grounded by your mom - a dad who would treat the family on Sundays - a dad who would listen to your first heartache - a dad who would kiss you good night - a dad who would cook and do the laundry on his days off - a dad who would watch her daughter on her first ballet recital - a dad who would hold your hand when you’re scared - a dad who would carry you on his back - a dad who would say, “That’s my girl! as he watches you takes accept your college diploma - a dad who would cry as he walks me in the aisle on my wedding - I will never know what it feels to be a daddy’s girl.

Now, me and my husband Bien I are raising our very own, Isabelle - who in her own little ways acknowledges that her dad is qualified to be one. She turns to his dad when I mock her. She doesn’t give him a hard time when it’s just them left in the house. She smiles at his dad more often than she does to me. She grips his fingers, which I think is her way of saying, “Dad, please stay.”

As first time parents, we sure have a long way to go but I know that day will come when people would come to us and say, “You’ve raised your children well. They must be blessed to have parents like you.”

Hon, this Father’s day I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you for being with me as I take the journey to parenthood. You never left. You never gave up. You stayed and became my strength in my weaknesses. You held my hand real tight, the morning you first saw me after giving birth to Saab. You’ve had your share of sleepless nights when I was all too tired of Saab’s crying. You always make it to a point to provide us with everything even when it means sacrificing many things, not to mention being in debt as well. Having said all of this, I can tell that you’ve always had a father’s heart.
